Mathematics is the art of thinking correctly. It enables individuals to think accurately, perform analysis and synthesis, and enhances analytical thinking and modeling abilities. As a fundamental science that serves as a universal language, mathematics helps prevent systematic errors. It facilitates the collection of new information, the organization of collected data, and its interpretation and accurate explanation. In this regard, all the sciences, both natural and social, require mathematics.
Mathematics, being the foundation of sciences like business, economics, astronomy, physics, industry, and engineering, has many applications within itself. Numerical analysis used in engineering problems, probability and statistics—essential tools in social life—and the increasingly significant fields of financial and insurance mathematics are among the key areas that come to mind.
Our aim as a department is to nurture individuals with goals and ideals for themselves and their country, who possess well-developed reasoning skills, self-confidence, the ability to generate knowledge, originality, and aesthetic values, and who are equipped with fundamental mathematical knowledge.
In addition to the core and theoretical applied mathematics courses we offer, our department helps students develop in their chosen theoretical or applied fields through elective courses, based on their interests and abilities. We also provide opportunities to work with various programming languages and utilize up-to-date software packages in our fully equipped computer laboratory, where our computer courses are conducted.
Through the Erasmus program, our students can spend part of their studies at partner universities abroad. They can also study and conduct research at different universities for specified periods through the Farabi and Mevlana exchange programs.
Our department, which has a highly qualified academic staff and places great emphasis on research, also trains faculty members for other universities within the framework of the Faculty Member Training Program (ÖYP). Additionally, our department is accredited by FEDEK, the national accreditation body, making it one of the few mathematics departments in the country that meets international standards.
After graduation, our students, equipped with the necessary qualifications for postgraduate education, can pursue master's and doctoral degrees and take on academic positions in various units of our universities. Moreover, by taking pedagogical formation courses, our students can qualify to become teachers, work as accountants in banks, and serve as mathematicians in the information technology centers, research and development centers of private and public institutions.
